Washington Restaurant Association
Governmental Affairs Internship
The WRA Internship Program is established through the Washington Restaurant Association, under the supervision of the Government Affairs department as an opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience in a professional lobbying setting.
The primary purpose of the internship is to allow the student to experience first hand, the legislative process from an organizational lobbying perspective.
Interns are expected to begin their term with the Association one week prior to the start of the legislative session, and will conclude at the end of session.
Job Requirements

Opportunities available to the intern are
outlined below.
Intern will be assigned three bills of interest to the WRA and will be responsible to:
1. Track them through the legislative process from beginning to end.
2. Attend hearings of legislative committees and record testimony.
3. Write a review of the assigned legislation at the completion of session.
Provide administrative and technical support for internal lobby team, as well as external lobby team:
1. Prepare written and electronic communication.
2. Assist in preparation of handouts that will be distributed to state legislature.
3. Assist in research to prepare necessary documents to effectively communicate WRA positions.
Track legislation of interest throughout session by:
1. Learning to use the bill tracking web site.
2. Update the bill tracker weekly on all of WRA’s issues.
Government Affairs Committee meetings:
1. Attend all of the GAC meetings and participate on weekly conference calls.
2. Responsible for recording the minutes of the meetings and conference calls.
Be included in all possible aspects of organizing and executing grassroots legislative actions.
1. Assist members with lobbying efforts with legislators, if necessary.
2. Utilize the fax/email service to communicate with membership.
3. Assist in the execution of the Action Alerts.
Hill Climb and ‘Taste Our Best’ Legislative Reception:
1. Set appointments with Legislators.
2. Data entry and coordination of RSVP’s.
3. Responsible for coordinating registration table for both events.
4. Assist in organizing and executing recognition program to participants.
Assist in writing the annual Legislative Review publication
Update and electronically distribute weekly Hot Off the Grill legislative update
